Ganesh Chaturthi 2020: Dates and Celebration

Ganesha Chaturthi is a festival of Hindus, which is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. This festival is dedicated to Lord Ganesha as it is celebrated as the Lord Ganesha birthday. It is ten days long celebration in the Maharashtra. This time is considered the most auspicious time in the Maharashtra to start any work or relation. Every year, many Bollywood actors, actresses, singers and many popular people also take a visit to Siddhivinayak temple and at the huge pandals to pray lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi.

In this festival, a clay idol of Ganesha is used to worship in homes and Pandals, which is a temporary stage for public. Idol of Lord Ganesha dwells on the stage and prepare the idol with new clothes and Prasad. People worship the Lord Ganesha by chanting mantras, hymes, aartis, bhajans and songs in the pandals. Devotees offer different types of Prasad or MODAK, Jaggery and Durva to Lord Ganesha and also get Prasad from the priest. During this time, on many places in Maharashtra, the people have performed Jagrans.

How to Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi ?

People begin to start the celebration before one month of Ganesha Chaturthi. The huge idols of Ganesha are brought to Pandals before 15 to 20 days so that cleaning or decoration may be completed for the celebration. On public celebration the funds is taken by local residence, businessmen or community organizations. In the huge Pandals of lord Ganpati, lakhs of people visited the famous pandals in Mumbai, Pune and in other pandals of Maharashtra. In these pandals, the worship has been performed in the morning and at the evening, both times.

At the home, the small idol of Lord Ganesha is brought by the member of family and decorates the house & lighting. After cleaning the place, lord Ganesha idol is placed on the chowki then family member worship lord Ganesha, offer the flowers and different types of sweets specially Modak.

Ganesh Chaturthi festival is ended on the tenth day. On the tenth day of Ganesh Chaturthi, grand procession of lord Ganesha’s huge idols has been carried out in the streets of the Maharashtra. People participate in this procession with full devotion and enjoyment by performing dances on the music and dhols. During the procession, people say it loudly repeatedly, “Ganpati Bappa Morya”. After this, they immerse the idol into the water with believe that Ganesha returns to their parents on mount Kailasha and blessed them with happiness.
